Reasons for doing the bike ride

My mother has had to have both kidneys removed as a result of cancer and is now on dialysis. I am therefore doing the ride for her.

Most memorable cycling moment

Hiring a tandem whilst on holiday in France my wife Jules and I cycled to the beach. After a good lunch and several hours of snoozing in the sun we set off on the long journey back. Although she will not admit it I swear she fell asleep on the back of the bike. That journey back is up there with any of the hardest rides I have ever completed!! A close second was recently losing both my bikes off the back of the car and briefly dragging them up the A38. One of the bikes was new and I had never riden. They were both completey trashed!!

Training secrets

A good diet and a sensible training programme help. Unfortunately, however there are no short cuts or substitute for many hours of hard work.

What will be on your i-pod for the bike ride

I do not use an i-pod whilst riding.

How will you celebrate when you reach John O’Groats?

Hopefully enjoying a curry and few pints with the rest of the team after the obligatory glass of champagne.
