Reasons for doing the bike ride

Two quite simple reasons. Firstly I have always had a slightly mad ambition to cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats since I was a teenager and I thought now that I am in my 50's why not give it a go. Secondly, and much more importantly, a chance to try to make just a little bit of difference for four very well deserving charities.

Most memorable cycling moment

As I am the complete amateur of the group and only took up cycling seriously this year, my most memorable moment so far is the first time I fell off trying to stop at traffic lights in front of a line of traffic and failed to detach my shoes from the pedal clips. Deeply embarrassing although fortunately I didn’t get run over.

Training secrets

Training, what's training?

What will be on your i-pod for the bike ride

I find my training runs by myself (and yes I do do some training) quite boring so I have bought an ipod and at the moment, sad to say, I am into Abba's Greatest Hits - good rhythm and I can sing along!

How will you celebrate when you reach John O’Groats?

Just get into the nearest comfortable car!
